Project:

United States Antarctic Resource Center (USARC)

Leaders:

Daniel Sechrist, dsecris@usgs.gov

Overview:

A joint effort of the USGS Geography Discipline and the National Science Foundation United States Antarctic Program.

The U.S. Antarctic Resource Center (USARC) at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Reston, Va., maintains the Nation's most comprehensive collection of Antarctic maps, charts, satellite images, and photographs produced by the United States and other member nations of the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR).

The USARC's extensive collection of Antarctic maps and charts are produced by the United States and other nations that are members of the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR). An online index for Antarctic maps and charts can be viewed at usarc.usgs.gov. The USARC holdings include maps and charts from Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, China, Ecuador, Finland, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Poland, Russia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Uruguay.

The USARC develops and maintains the Antarctic Web site (usarc.usgs.gov) and its supporting databases, as well as providing access to other online digital databases, such as the Atlas of Antarctic Resources.

The USARC is the United States' contribution to the SCAR Library system and is managed through an interagency agreement with the National Science Foundation to provide support to the USGS for mapping and geodetic activities for the U.S. Antarctic Program. For further information or assistance in ordering any of these materials, write to or visit the USARC. The center is open from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
